How to Install Designcenter NX Student Edition – Full Guide

In this tutorial, we’ll go step by step through the installation of the educational version of Designcenter, Siemens’ CAD software, which until recently was known as NX and has its roots in the old Unigraphics software.

This tutorial is a bit long, but I’ve edited it down to make the entire process easier to follow. The final download may take more than an hour, but I’ve shortened this and several other steps to create an 8-minute video that gives you a clear overview of the entire process while still covering the most important parts of the installation.

Keep in mind that this version is intended exclusively for educational and training purposes. It should not be used for professional or commercial purposes. This condition is stated in some of the terms of use that we need to accept during certain stages of the installation. I also verified this with the help of AI.

And just to clarify, you don’t necessarily have to be currently enrolled in a college or technical school to use the Student Edition. Siemens currently makes this version available to students, educators, and lifelong learners, and student status does not need to be verified.

Before we start the installation, I’ll show you the system requirements and recommended specifications for running Designcenter. You can check whether your computer meets the necessary requirements.
Important Notice: The educational/Student Edition shown in this tutorial is available only for 64-bit Windows PCs.

 

 
Okay, let’s start by going to Siemens’ official website. The link is right here if you need it.

To access the software, we need to create a Siemens account. The process is simple, and I’ll quickly show you how to do it.

First, click Register, and then fill in the requested information. You’ll also need to agree to a few terms here. Once that’s done, click Continue.

 

 

Next, you may be asked to create a passkey if you want to. I skipped this step because it’s optional.

 

On the next screen, you’ll be asked to enter a verification code that was sent to your email. Check the email address you used to register, enter the code you received, and then click Continue.

 

Note: After entering the 6-digit email code, you will be prompted to create your password on the next screen.

Back on the website, we now need to agree to the Universal Customer Agreement. Once you’ve done that, click Submit to request authorization to use Designcenter.

After a short loading period, your authorization to use the software will be ready. On the same screen we saw earlier, you’ll now see the countdown showing how many days remain before your one-year educational software license expires.

Okay, we’re now authorized, so we can finally move on to the installation process.

On the next screen, select the operating system you’re using. In my case, it’s Windows.
After that, a program will be downloaded to your computer. Open and run the program to begin the installation process.

If you’re prompted for administrator permission, grant the necessary permissions. You can also run the program as an administrator from the start, so you won’t be prompted for permission later.

A window will appear showing what’s new in this version. You can close it if you want.

 

 

Next, a Siemens login window will appear, asking you to sign in before continuing. You can log in using the email address you registered with and the password you just created.

 

 

 

The next screen will suggest setting up a passkey to increase the security of your account, but this is optional. You can skip this step if you want.

 

 

 

Now we’ve reached the authentication step, which is required. Siemens recommends using Auth0 Guardian, but you can also use another authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator, or choose to receive a verification code by SMS.

 

Keep in mind that you’ll need to log in and use an authenticator every day in order to use this version of the software.

 

 

 

After entering the authentication code, you’ll receive a new password. This is a special verification password that may be required in certain situations. Copy it and store it somewhere safe, because you may be asked for it again later, and it may also be updated.

 

Once the login is successful, a window about Siemens’ data usage will appear. Click Agree.

 

 

 

Next, we finally arrive at the Siemens Software Center. This is where we’ll start downloading Designcenter.

 

 

 

After clicking Download, you’ll see an estimated remaining time of approximately one hour.

Sometimes, a connection error may occur and the download may be interrupted. If that happens, simply click Download again and repeat the process until the download is complete.

Once the download is complete, simply click Open. However, we may run into a few more surprises here. Your computer may not have all the software components required to run Designcenter. If that’s the case, the installer will tell you exactly which program or programs are missing.

I recommend using the links provided right here to download and install whatever is missing. From what I’ve seen, these links work better than trying to find and download the required software on your own.

Once you’ve properly installed all the missing components, we’ve finally completed the Designcenter installation. We can now launch the program. And notice that when we open, for example, a Part environment, you’ll see a message in the lower-right corner of the screen indicating that this is an educational version.

 

 

 

As I mentioned at the beginning of the video, we agreed to terms that clearly state that this version cannot be used for professional purposes. It is intended for training and educational use only.

In my opinion, based on my experience with the professional version, the Student Edition is actually very complete. Sometimes, I even forget that I’m using a student version. It’s very close to the professional version and has practically everything we need for our NX/Designcenter training here on our channel.
